Concert information for Thursday for Winter Concert (lots of info)

Hi all (especially our newest email subscribers!),

There is a lot of info to this email so please read through it carefully. If any new info surfaces between now and the concert, I will send out emails and also post on our website. Please, carefully review the concert attire addendum and policy so there are no issues with clothing for the concert.

1) Here are the report times for students for our Winter Concert for Thursday. December 10th. As a reminder, these report times/timeliness are also part of the student’s grade. Here are the times:

-7th grade: Be ready to play and tuned on the stage by 6:30pm (not arriving at that time, but fully ready to play). I will rehearse with you, take attendance, and do a concert attire inspection. Make sure to warmup and tune.

-8th grade: Be ready to play and tuned in the band room by 6:35pm with instruments ready to play (not arriving at that time, but fully ready to play). After I am finished with 7th grade I will come to rehearse, take attendance, and do a concert attire inspection. Make sure to warmup and tune.

(Intermission)

-6th grade: Please be in the choir room by 7:35pm (without instruments). I will then take attendance and do a concert attire inspection when I am finished with the 8th grade portion of the concert. Please do not touch anything in the choir room.
NOTE: Yes, you read this correctly, the 6th grade is on last, and normal the order is from youngest to oldest. Because we had to postpone the first concert for 6th grade due to bad weather back in November, we move it to this Thursday. I really do want to have exclusive time with these newest of band members and their families so this is why they are at the end. For all concerts at Discovery (except this one) all students stay for the entirety of the concert as this is part of their grade, please we often do post-reflection writing assignments for all groups.
For this one concert tomorrow night, the 7th grade will perform (with 8th grade watching) and the 8th grade will perform (with 7th grade watching) and then there will an intermission, in which all 7th and 8th graders and their families may leave at that time and then the 6th grade families will enter the Auditeria.

2) Volunteer Chaperones: 7th and 8th grade chaperones, please meet with me at 6:15pm. I will be in the Band Room or Auditeria (for 6th grade chaperones, we will meet immediately after the 8th grade play, most likely in the choir room). At that time I will appoint head chaperones for each group and we will discuss our responsibilities. MANY thanks to the following parents for volunteering to chaperone for this concert!

Finally, I am so very excited for our concert as we have nearly 80% new band students that weren’t at Discovery last year and I am thrilled to meet all the parents, family members, take pictures, and share a wonderful time together. Many thanks to you all for your incredible investment in your child and your wonderful support for band, which is a vehicle for many life lessons. I am truly grateful for you all.
With warmest anticipation,

Mr. Marc Whitlock
